Brian Bell is from Salt Lake City and was born in 1968. His mother was a negligent, albeit nonviolent, alcoholic. School was boring for Brian, so he would get in trouble for behaving differently than the other kids but they couldn’t contact his mother because she was always at the bar. His parents were divorced and he had to send his sister to the neighbors to eat. He felt like he was on his own by the age of 9.
"I'm just trying to do some good, but I don't look for praise or accolades. I look for sad eyes, the one holding back tears, the lost, not sure where to go. That's what I look for, because there is something there I can work with. Someone I can help."

Brian slipped a disc in his neck and the surgery to repair it resulted in paralysis that he recovered from. Unfortunately he still has numbness down the left and right side of his body that prevents him from picking things up or holding on to them and that’s impeding his ability to work. However, he can’t get on disability because his IDs keep getting stolen when they’re delivered. He uses medical cannabis to deal with this injury.

Brian also insists this is temporary, and he is a trillionaire with thousands of acres of land in Park City and all over the country, he just needs to go to Summit County to claim it.
He knows his current state is due to complacency. Brian has been on the streets for at least 8 years. He knows it’s time to make a change. But he feels something is left unfinished and that’s why he hasn’t left yet…He has work to do, changing the world, only as he can.

The Nomad Alliance has known Brian for years and he has always been friendly and one of the most helpful and gracious people out on the streets. And when Nomad asked for a group of folks to come to the farthest proposed point for the new 1400 bed shelter, and walk to the closest bus stop as a media moment to demonstrate the absurdity, Brian was the first to say yes, walking nearly four miles along highways, running across them where there were no cross walks, all with a smile on his face.
