David grew up in Bogota, Colombia. He was one of three siblings in a family with very little resources; he states that in one way his childhood was beautiful, but in other ways it was violent. A father of two daughters, he immigrated to earn enough to give his family a better life, and nearly every dollar he earns while living at the Rescue Mission, he sends as remittances home. David has a passion for the sports motocross and track, in his home county he was a well-known competitive sprinter.  David was invited to come to Utah by a friend, but his sponsor didn’t meet him, and he has ended up living on the streets where he says it is difficult, but he’s optimistic. He was addicted to drugs for 23 years and credits Jesus, and the strength of his family, for helping him lead a now sober life. He dreams of making enough money in the US, just $50,000, he figures, to open his own home for those living homeless and in addiction in Colombia. He’s looking for a permanent job in construction, logistics, social work or working with animals, but really dreams of using his life to help people. He’s learning to love Utah because it has beautiful people and beautiful scenery. Right after his photoshoot, David came to serve with the Nomad Alliance the entirety of supply drive weekend, inviting five of his Latino friends from the Rescue Mission to boot!

On the street, you have to be strong, but if you’re strong and prepared, you can make it.
