Mike, 57, was born in Brigham City, Utah, and has spent most of his life in the state. During his travels he became a professional bull rider, a career that left him with lasting injuries, chronic pain, and required facial reconstructive surgery. A lifelong animal lover and self-proclaimed cowboy, Mike owns Healing Horses Ranch in Eagle Mountain, where he rehabilitates 17 rescued horses—his top priority and the main barrier to securing housing. Unhoused for six months, he now sleeps in a trailer provided by the Nomad Alliance and often helps them haul supplies. An Army veteran of 11 years, sound healer, and drum maker, Mike lives by the Dalai Lama’s words: “Kindness is my religion.”

Mike, 57, was born in Brigham City, Utah, and has spent most of his life in the state. During his travels he became a professional bull rider, a career that left him with lasting injuries – including chronic pain – and required facial reconstructive surgery. And his time fighting wars for America left scars less visible but no less aching.

A lifelong animal lover and self-proclaimed cowboy, Mike owns Healing Horses Ranch in Eagle Mountain, where he rehabilitates 17 rescued horses—his top priority and the main barrier to securing housing. A long-term and immensely-valuable team member, Mike has housed the Blue Bus two off-season summers in a row – the only to offer – including a winter of it’s first round-the-clock, noisy remodel, where our ED, team member Mellow, & others would sleep on the bus 24/7, and other skilled team and community members would come and provide brief aid on projects as they all renovated the Bus nearly 24/7 for 2.5 weeks straight.

Mike has also provided supply drive transportation for over two years, driving an hour each way to offer his horse trailer to deliver donations from storage unit to supply drive and back, helping thousands of unsheltered receive necessary aid. How ironic that during his tenure he went through a divorce where his wife took his ranch, leaving him – and nearly 2 dozen horses – homeless. But luckily the Nomad Alliance had been storing a 5th-wheel on this property after an RV family housing partnership with a property owner ended and the trailer had to be stored somewhere, but thanks to Nomad Mike had an immediate place to live on his neighbor’s property, continuing housing his rescued horses, and also remaining an invaluable team member hauling supplies to the unsheltered in a trailer that smells like manure. Unhoused for six months, he still sleeps in that trailer provided by the Nomad Alliance, taking care of his horses, his toddler son, healing others through sound, making drums, and living by the Dalai Lama’s words: “Kindness is my religion.”
