MEDIA ADVISORY: Nomad Alliance Re-Launches Nation’s First Mobile Shelter — the Upgraded Blue Bus
Event:Â Blue Bus Launch and Media Tour
Date:Â Today, January 24, 2026
Time:Â 2:00 PM
Location:Â Fairmont Park, Sugarhouse, Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake City, UT — [Date] — The Nomad Alliance invites members of the media to tour the newly upgraded Blue Bus, the first mobile shelter of its kind in the United States, today at 2 p.m. at Fairmont Park.
After months of dedicated work, the nonprofit is proud to unveil major upgrades that make the Blue Bus a truly self-sustaining refuge for unsheltered individuals. Enhancements include a fully functional shower and bathroom, solar power systems, and a range of interior renovations and upgrades designed to provide a dignified and secure space for Utah’s unsheltered community members.
The new and improved Blue Bus launch marks a significant milestone in Nomad Alliance’s ongoing mission to support, empower, and uplift individuals experiencing homelessness. The innovative mobile shelter demonstrates a model that could transform how cities nationwide respond to homelessness by delivering vital services directly to those who need them most in locations where many are already sleeping rough.
Media attending the event will have the opportunity to:
Tour the Blue Bus and see its new features up close
Interview Nomad Alliance leadership, unsheltered bus managers and volunteers who built the Bus
Learn more about the nonprofit’s long-term vision for mobile outreach and services
Brian Drown, a contractor living sans adequate shelter for over a decade, has been living on the Bus and renovating it 24/7 for the last 3 months. "Nomad Alliance got me my $1,400 stimulus check when I needed money the most. I've been screwed out of every tax return I've ever applied for in the last 30 years and I was never going to waste my time applying for it. But the fact that you guys were there doing it for me, I said what the heck. When I found out they needed help to renovate their mobile shelter I wanted to give back like they'd given to me. It's been challenging building a two room bathroom around a spiral staircase, but we did it. I had an opportunity to do something rather than nothing. I'm proud."
