Alejandro, who goes by Yei, was in Utah just two weeks when the Nomad Alliance met him. A Venezuelan refugee escaping a dangerous city run by gangs, Alejandro stays at the Rescue Mission, and barely speaks a word of English. A certified electrical technician, he’s been passionate about electrical work since he was young. Alejandro was so inspired by our work he invited five of his Latino friends staying at the Mission to serve nine full hours during supply-drive Sunday. While he “doesn’t like to think of the future and always lives in the present,” the hard-worker dreams of gaining asylum, gaining a job as an electrical technician, and achieving the American Dream. The Nomad Alliance is working to connect him to apprentice at the local electrical union. He loves to cook, travel and play basketball and soccer.
